The entire education system summed up in a three panel comic strip.

Basically. Conservatives believe that education is for qualification — AKA getting a job — not for actual learning, which isn’t surprising seeing as they are terrified by knowledge and truth unless they can twist “it” from a Bible verse.
Education is a human right. Everyone deserves to be able to learn about the world around them — to fall in love with the planet and its subjects, to want to know more and more about something, to live passionately and curiously.
Our education system in America is horrible, and falls way behind most developed nations. We also have one of the worst dropout rates. I feel like we need to move away from this ‘pass the test’ crap in order to improve it at all. I went to a Montessori school, where we had evaluations and projects instead of tests, until high school, and I learned much more there than I did in my first two years of high school, when I was in public school (I later had to switch to online school because I got sick). I actually enjoyed learning because it was made fun and interesting through the educational approach — I can still remember everything, even the subjects I didn’t really care for. I remember nothing from those first two years of high school, even though I made almost all A’s. It was all about passing the tests and nothing else.
